Are city towers now a fact of life?

Do you agree with architect Adrian Smith that by 2050, 60% of the world's population will live in cities?

I think its pretty safe to say globally we are headed to the majority of the world living in cities.
Now I do have little issue with the working at times, when does a town become a city? When I was in China I visited a remote "town", however it had 50,000 people living there. In China that's a town, but in Canada that's a city.
But to give you an idea, Canada is one of the most urbanized places in the world. About 80% of Canadians live in an urban area.

Are towers the future? That depends on the geography of a city and whole bunch of other factors. Density doesn't neceesarily equal high rises. London is by all accounts dense, but there are just now beginning to experiment with high rises. They managed heavy density without towers for quite a long time.

@Rem great point about London.
I don't dispute that people are rapidly migrating to cities and that current trends point to 60% of world's population to be in cities by 2050.
However, by 2050 the world is going to be radically different. Already, people are spending significant portions of their lives in virtual environments (World of Warcraft, Facebook, Skype meetings etc.). By 2050, with full immersion virtual reality, three dimensional printers, and electric vehicles that drive themselves, isn't it possible that the migratory trend to cities will reverse itself?
If I spent my 95% of my life living inside the internet, maybe I'd like to spend the other 5% in a small village in Northern Ontario.

Can't really predict the future, we just have to live in it. I love living in the city of Toronto where everything is at my finger tips. I realize that they are building at break neck speed, but has anyone taken a look at the suburban sprawl lately.
Small towns that I grew up in are now considered cities. That being said most people are coming to the big cities for work and play, as long as they can afford it. I bought my unit last year and the price has already gone up. Currently I'm thinking of financing an investment but I'm not sure of where the prices are going.

@Cliff i think the sentiment sounds great, but in reality...i'm not sure companies like BuzzBuzzHome could exist if you were somewhere in Northern Ontario. Getting face time with so much industry insiders was instrumental in the success of your company...imagine how many other companies that also benefit (ie those involved in sprouter). Cities are the way to go for an innovative economy
