In NYC, the weirdest of the weird happens--especially at some open houses. At one open house in Manhattan, poo schmears were left on a bath towel, at another, a broker scratched and clawed a seller's face leaving him bloody and then there was that time when a woman tied her dog to a chair while viewing an apartment--someone accidently stepped on the dog's tail; the dog bolted through the crowded apartment with the chair still tied to him and did over $5,000 worth of damage!

A friend of mine was one of the first into an open house down the street from me, and there was porn playing on the TV in the master bedroom.

My fault, but I have been known to use the bathroom at open houses. Always get yelled at, deservedly I might add.

It is always funny when people use the model-suit bathroom, not knowing that there is no plumbing hooked up.

Seen that happen twice.

I feel terrible for the sales staff!

Well we had gone in for a house viewing sometime back. This was a home in the county. Imagine my horrow when on entering one of the rooms which was totally dark, I saw a candle moving across the floor. Just as I was about to scream, a teenager darted in and turned on the lights. It was a tortoise with a candle stuck to its shell. Had a good laugh thereafter but was totally scared initially.

As a NYC real estate broker, I've seen that as well--it's absolutely mortifying! Check out the picture below--it's of a toilet in a new development in Manhattan--yes, that is green-hued toilet water and God only knows what it is!

Oh, and also.. a tip to any one who is holding an open house:

Make sure to dump the trash from any clear waste baskets that you might have! Believe it or not, an associate and I stumbled across the above during an open house at a penthouse apartment in Chelsea. And yes, that is a pink tampon applicator in the trash.
