As a planned community in the post war bay area, Parkmerced has long stood as one of the least dense residential neighbourhoods in San Francisco. Block 06 is within the first phase of the new Parkmerced Masterplan, which is a 30-year strategy to densify the 60-year old development. With San Francisco in dire need to provide housing for its growing population, San Francisco Planning and the community of San Francisco have warmly welcomed the master planning efforts at Parkmerced.
The plan for Block 6 is to bring two new 11-story towers onto the west side of the block next to two existing towers. The new buildings will sit atop a two-level underground parking structure and will include a variety of amenities such as; a cardio gym & weight room, yoga room, library, activity lounge with kitchen, outdoor bocce, and a community garden roof deck with a spa.
The towers will house 258 rental units over 264,000 square feet. The ground floors will feature a few residential units in addition to common space amenities to provide subdivided character to the street front, while the stories above will all be multifamily residential dwelling units. The buildings will be configured to feature green open space dedicated to the building at both ground level and roof deck.
