Dupont & Dufferin - NE Corner

A couple of lots are for sale at this corner. Any updates on what may happen here zoning wise, etc?  The lots are 1140 and 1152 DuPont and they total 20,000 sf of land area together.

It's currently zoned as Employment/Industrial, however I wouldn't be surprised if someone bought it up and tried to apply for rezoning. I think that strip is going to see a lot more residential activity in the next few years, especially when the Dupont Regeneration Study is done (although it only encompasses Dupont from Kendall to Ossington).

A bird told me both lots might see a Burger King and Tim Horton's, which to me is disappointing. We shall see what happens for sure.

A second McDonalds to compliment the one at Galleria would have been a better option at this site if this is true!

I hope it doesn't happen.  Traffic will be horrible and the corner could be used for something better.

Well.... 1140 Dupont is either off the market or has sold.

To the best of my knowledge, @"Freed Developments" has tied up Galleria.

I am not sure if this is public yet.

VERY interesting stuff. Not surprised by Freed Developments because FD is buying quite a lot on Dupont apparently (Don't quote me). Perhaps this blog will be updated soon. @"Mark Evans" any news on an update?  Your blog was fantastic as a resource.

Daniel, that is very quotable. @"Freed Developments" is buying up everything on Dupont.

@Marco, I heard the same thing a few months back, that @Freed has tied up Galleria. Not confirmed yet, but I agree that he is looking to buy up Dupont and has already made some plays.

The 'Blog of Blogs' on Dupont's future was updated last week thanks to @Mark Evans:

The owners of the Galleria told me this week they would go public with news of a firm sale of the mall to Freed Developments.

As of this afternoon it was confirmed by the Galleria that Freed bought and cheques were accepted.

Its up up to Freed Developments to put out a press release as per the Galleria. That being said, I assume something will come out in a few days from Freed's side.

I've been told we are looking at a 4M square feet mixed use development. Expect another Honest Ed's type development to unfold here in the future. It will likely be legendary or at least significant to West Toronto at the very least.

The only other interesting tid bit of information is did the famous 'Brick' furniture store building on Geary Ave get purchased also? It appears likely although this is pure speculation.

Dupont will blossom from Lansdowne to Bathurst over the next decade in ways we can only hope will be incredible.

I I still can't believe people this week are talking about Google opening offices at 950 DuPont in the near future.

Talk about momentum building folks :).

The biggest problem is that Dupont, west of Spadina, does not have good public transit. I don't see how an "Honest Eds" style development would be possible here.

Honest Eds has The Annex, proximity to downtown, and kitty corner to a subway. Galleria has the Dufferin bus.

There is no doubt that Freed is going hard on Dupont, but I just don't see it.

There is no doubt that Dupont has a problem accessibility/ transit wise. So, with all the condos coming in at Lansdowne @ DuPont, a major development at the Galleria could be toxic since traffic in the area is brutal already.

Bloor and St Clair will have to pick up much of the load I guess transit wise.

I'm seriously excited about what may be in the works here. The Green Line will benefit and perhaps could prove instrumental for carrying foot/ bike traffic in the area.

The biggest non-secret is finally out! Since I live literally around the corner I'd really like to see some level of "grit" or down to earthness kept. Basically keep it real. No Lagerfeld, no teetering heels in a King West club atmosphere. Transit is very much an issue though--I like the connections that the Davenport and Dupont buses provide to the University line but they've always been under the gun when routes get reduced. Have heard The Brick was sold awhile back as well. No 411 on who right now. Just my 2 cents having been involved with some of the sites along the strip :).

This area is still gentrifying so Lagerfeld will not be involved :).  I believe this area is starting to prove some people right and some people wrong from a conversation on this site from a few years ago...
