Best public transit system in the world?

Have you been to any cities with incredible public transit systems? What cities would you consider to be the best?

Right now I think Paris is at the top of my list, with Berlin in a close second.

Mississauga Transit. The old route I used to take to get to Islington got me to the subway in a blazing 87 minutes.

Tokyo - everything is "on the second" on time and efficient. But a tad crowded mind you!

I always love riding the Tube.

You can get anywhere. It is fast. It is nice.

@Marco DiFoti, definitely, the tube is great but I found it was hot and cramped a lot of the time.

The tube has weirdly low ceilings and small trains. I love the transit system in Paris.

A breakdown of all transit systems I've used:

Toronto: Trash.

Cancun: Really good, made for tourists. Quick and the AC is lovely. Also, they play cartoons or movies all day on repeat on flat screen tvs, dead serious.

New York City: Best Transit in the world. Queens to Brooklyn took no time at all, love it, wish Toronto had it.

Las Vegas: Cheap but very slow. The weirdest characters ride around on Vegas transit, probably the most spacious seats ever though and the double decker is a nice add-on.

Montreal: Similar to Toronto if I remember correctly.

New Orleans: I rather ride on a horse. Buses had missing seats, things would constantly break mid-ride

Cleveland: Enjoyable, very quick, they won't wait at stops AT ALL. It's all about the hustle.

Detroit: Thought I was going to die

I'll add to the city-by-city breakdown:

Amsterdam - great tram & train system but transit isn't really necessary unless you are in a rush. The downtown of the city is easily walkable.

Berlin - Trains, trams, subways, you name a place you want to get to, you can get there fast. Impeccably clean. Impressive as Berlin is a huge city.

Paris - the metro is a city to itself, it kicks ass. Not the cleanest system ever though.

London - the tube is also a great system, very fast and connects the city efficiently. Squishy and hot though.

Disney World (Florida) - has a better transit system than downtown Toronto. Monorails, buses, trams. They've got it down to a science.

@Joel Hurren Yes!! Disney World does have a better transit system than Toronto. It's a little depressing, but Epcot to Animal Kingdom in 20 minutes -- you can't beat that.

Seoul's subway system is incredible.
It's clean, entertaining, and super punctual.
(and unlike NY, always get cell phone reception and wireless internet for free)

A lot of information here. Chicago was smooth for me when I went there. I think the only problem in Detroit is that people don't need to use it since everyone has cars and there is barely any traffic.

I think fare zones are a very good idea. One travelling 25kms and one travelling 3kms shouldn't be paying the same fare.

@Aaron Mohammed True. It should be per mile or kilometer. Its not a buffet.
