We are finalizing the design for our project on Willoughby Avenue. A key challenge of this design is in the negotiation between its programmatic requirements and the narrow lot size. This design works to manipulate the verticality of the project, duplexing the apartments to maximize usable areas in the building. The design provides a visual delineation between the private vs social spaces within the units creating double height spaces for the social areas and duplexing the private areas. The internal spaces of the apartments are connected via a series of interior bridges and catwalks emphasizing the double heights of the social spaces. The exterior of the building works to reflect the changing heights within the apartment and its focus on verticality, whilst maintaining the horizontal vernacular of the buildings surrounding, retaining the warm wooden siding, a direct reflection of its neighbors.
