I know this might sound a crazy, but can a condo balcony support a hot tub?

I am not talking about a full sized hot tub, I know there is no way. But a small Softtub, which weigh 1200lbs on the low end and 3000 on the high end.

Probably best to talk to your property manager, or if still in pre-construction or under construction, talk to the builder ASAP!

Condo Balconies are considered common elements which is why often times the condo board does place restrictions on what is permitted in/around the balcony area. The restrictions often offer the benefits of safety and maintaining aesthetics that won't drive down the value of the condo. For these reasons and for whatever your soft tub needs, the building would love your suggestion and perhaps look into placing or having several soft tubs on the roof top terrace or other suitable area this way its an amenity available to all rather than have several balconies with soft tubs on them.  Hope this helps,

I know back in the day the city of Mississauga allowed gas BBQ's on condo balconies but Toronto did not. Check city laws 1 st I hate shared hot tubs causes maintenance costs and if not correct can cause flesheating disease. perhaps just inside the balcony door with floor to ceiling glass panels if you have the room? floors are thicker not far from a waterbed for weight? I picture frosted glass corner glass no doors something like this picture from a vanity/kitchen install I was at recently?

Alex, I agree with Matthew. Talk to your PM who will relay your question to the right person. All spaces are engineered for live and dead loads, the structural engineer might not have designed the space to carry the additional load of a hot tub plus the weight of water and occupants in their calculations. There may also be specific ordinances in your area that prevent such a use on the balcony.

I will also add that when using a hot tub, one climbs up and inside. The height of the balcony guardrail is critical! The use and placement of your hot tub might compromise this important component and may not comply with local building codes & regulations.

Hope that helps.

sell and buy a unit like this,
who wants to share a hot tub with other owners, the glass may come in handy after all! What a suite look at that terrace! A pic from Rivercity site I installed kitchens at.

In my opinion you must consult with a good premier property management services. They will guide you rightly.

I'm sure the idea of having a hot tub, even a small inflatable soft tub, on your balcony would be easily refused by your property manager and condo board. There is too much liability and issues associated with it -- structural concerns, sound and vibrations from the pump, how to properly fill and drain it, what happens if the tub leaked or burst, insurance roles/responsibilities, etc.
I would hate you if I was your neighbour downstairs.

If it was a terrace it would be a different story as those outdoor spaces could hold larger loads and have their own storm drain, and many terraces have their own water supply. I have seen a few units with private terraces or roof top patios that have a full sized hot tub which is a really nice thing to have, especially when you hate the thought of using common/communal hot tubs.
You typically still need permission from your property manager and board to have a hot tub on your roof or terrace.

Would an inflatable hot tub be safe on my fourth floor balcony which is over structure?
