Best Phone for the Real Estate Ninja - Blackberry, Droid, or iPhone

I just purchased a Blackberry Torch and it sucks. I refused to get an iPhone because i'm not an apple fanboy and i spent days researching Android but ultimately decided to stick with Blackberry - bad move dude!

What's your experience with the Torch if you got one and what do you think is the best smartphone for the real estate agent, professional, developer, ninja?

iPhone is so superior it's not even funny. I am not an Apple fanboy, I don't own any other Apple products, but I can recognize that their phone is miles ahead of the competition.

I got an Android about 4 months ago and so far it's been pretty good. I've played around with iPhones and to be honest they seem very simliar.
There has inevitably been a couple of issues with the phone but can anybody say that they have owned a phone that has never given them any problems?
When I was originally deciding on getting a new phone I had my heart set on an iPhone but they sold out before I got one and I can say that I'm very happy that happened cos my Android is sweet!
The one thing that I would say the iPhone has over the Android is the amount of apps available - skype for instance only recently launched for the latest version of firmware for the Android and from what I've seen it's been quite problematic, but that is the only thing that I can see that the Android is second best in - the apps.
As regards to usability, syncing, call quality and set up, Android is excellent. And the touchscreen on my phone model is awesome.
Blackberry can suck it! I see it's appeal and know that Blackberry users are extremely loyal but they really do NOT compare to Android or iPhone anymore.
Does anybody have the new Microsoft phone? I don't like their marketing campaign - it's stupid.

I'm a proud APPLE Fanboy and have been since 84'. That said, my iMac, iPad and iPhone all work very well with regards to my Real Estate business and I highly recommend Apple Products... As I have mentioned before in other Buzz conversation blogs, the only thing I take with me on showings or when I'm with a client,... is my iPad & iPhone...as I have complete connectivity to listings, TREB, Web forms, CMA's, personal listing presentations...etc....
Can your Android or RIM do that?

I have a Blackberry Bold, and it stinks.
Sure. It is great for email.
But, it is terrible for everything else, especially the web-experience on it.
Everyone tells me that the BlackBerry is amazing because of its encryption. What the heck does that even mean???! I have not clue. I feel that RIM made that up as some marketing ploy.
The only good thing about the Blackberry is its keyboard, and BBM. Other than that... meh.
I give Blackberry 8 more months.
Next phone is a Droid, or an iPhone.

for me it's about productivity...
Coming from a 25 year career in the music biz, TV & film industry, Apple has always been the most innovative and creative company out there.... allowing the user to express artistic and cutting edge creativity...that said, I feel with today's challenges, you really NEED to implement innovative and artist value with regards to listings and presentations ..
my thoughts!

I think all of these smart phone companies need to work on quality control more. Instead of coming out with the next 'big' thing, make sure you improve your original line-up first.
Like the BlackBerry Strom when it came out was terrible, but it has gotten better I hear. So just add stronger features but with tested software (and hardware) before it goes out on the market.
I like the iPod Touch because you can essentially turn your iPod Touch into a phone with Skype and free VOIP and you don't have to pay a monthly fee for it, so I definitely wouldn't spend money buying an iPhone 4, especially if that's available.
BlackBerry for phone, iPod Touch for the good stuff kids go for!

I have a Torch. I actually recently bought 3 for my team. It came in by mail and 2 out of the 3 came in defective. And I hand to send one of the replacement phones back for the 2nd time. But other than the terrible start, I'm pretty happy with it. It's definitely an upgrade from my Bold.
I need the keyboard for my day to day communication. I can't stand auto correct and my fingers are too fat for the virtual keyboard :(
I do bring my iPad for showings to get access to treb listings and such. It's a better utility for show and tell anyway (as suppose to a phone to display all that info).

Blackberry is an email tool...... iPhone is like a portable computer and multimedia device. Most businesses (including real estate) require access to more then email when you are on the road......so I would say Blackberry's are going to slowly be phased out unless they come up with something wayyyyyyy better then they did with the Torch.

I love my iPhone... :-)

Do you not find your torch significantly less responsive than your iPad? I also have a Torch and a iPad and i find the iPad really fast and easy to use whereas with torch feels clunky with a bad UI. I've always kind-off disliked apple so i find it especially disturbing that the iPhone is so trouncing Blackberry.

Cliff, are you going to stay loyal to Blackberry even though you seem to realise that it is miles away from being anywhere as good as iPhone or Android?
Will you ever make the switch?

haha I'm stuck with my Torch for the next while cause i just purchased it at full price and can't return it (maybe i could sell it on Kijiji?).
However, i'm ready to make the switch to Android and am watching the next generation androids closely.
Interestingly, i told a friend of mine in a US hedge-fund to consider shorting Research in Motion considering the junk device they just launched but he said they're going long on the company as RIM sales are rocketing upwards outside of North America. I guess game isn't over yet - Waterloo is still on the ice.

Because...Steve Jobs is a visionary...and he does what he LOVES!......other companies mentioned in Cliff's previous conversation, continue to copy Apple's products without innovating in any way. Contrary to public beleif...Microsoft did NOT invent windows...Apple did. Bill Gates adopted Apple's OS [shitty at best] and called it Window 95'
Apple was the first to bring the personal computer to the consumer in the 70's... that ran on the first OS Windows and NOT DOS...along with a device we call today....a mouse.
Since the early 70's, Steve Jobs had structured his company based on visionary fundamentals and has NEVER strayed from it. Pick up the latest book about Steve Jobs "The Innovation Secrets of Steve Jobs". An inspiring read that unviels what has made Apple so successful. Number ONE secret...Love what you do!!!!
Bottom line:...K a couple:-)
It's about passion...thus...why other companies continue to copy, play catch up...and hate Apple!
Two things we do in life...."for the money"....and...."what we love"....if you can have both all in one...you'll be happy and successful.

I don't know anyone who has one either but I have heard its pretty good which isn't surprising considering Microsoft's bread and butter is operating systems.
In regards to Microsoft failing to innovate I think there's at least one recent example of where this isn't the case - Kinnect http://www.xbox.com/en-ca/kinect .

Hey,
Just wanted to update everyone on how things are going with my Blackberry Torch:
Although I complained about the phone non-stop for a couple of weeks and called it a piece of garbage, i'm now getting used to it and it may not be as bad as i initially proclaimed.
It certainly has speed and responsiveness issues but its freezing less and gets a little faster each week (needed to get warmed up). Maybe i'm just learning how to use it.

RIM is dead in my books. In a few years they will be remembered as the "Walkman"; an amazing devise that ruled for a long time, but lost out due to innovation.

Hey, just want to give another quick update on life with my Blackberry Torch.
Couple weeks ago after reinstalling the device OS, which didn't help, i asked Rogers to send me another one suspecting that maybe i just had a lemon.
Well well, the new device is way better and way faster. Moral of the story - if you're Blackberry torch is going really really slow - ask for another one.
Another thing i've learned from this experience is that we are now so dependent on our smartphones that to have a malfunctioning device is kind of debilitating.

I have the Torch - I got it the week it came out (end of September), which was a huge step for me from my Motorola Razor.

I loved it, of course, again, it was a huge step up from the flip phone. In general, it really was meeting my everyday needs.

All of a sudden, about 2 weeks ago, my battery started draining really quickly. For example, I would charge it overynight until about 8:00 am and it would be near dead by 2 pm (and that's with extreme minimal use). I used to be able to use it all the time without really worrying about battery life, and now after a few emails, bbms and several calls, the battery is pretty much gone.

I definitely can't have such unreliability in my phone and worry about it dying on me, especially when I'm on the road.

Like Cliff, I'm also stuck with this phone for a while and I'm not planning on switching to an iPhone or Droid anytime soon, so save your breath :)

Has anyone experienced this? I was thinking of contacting RIM's customer service to rectify this issue...Any suggestions or thoughts?

Hi Diana,
Where'd you buy the phone? It should be under warranty so just tell whoever you purchased it from that yours is broken and you need a new one.
I think most Blackberry owners request a new working device about once a year from their cell phone company - at least i do.

Mac to the rescue! Thanks :)

I purchased it from a Rogers dealer. I know that they had some extended warranty you can purchase for a monthly fee, but I didn't.

Is battery life a strong enough arguement to request a new device? Is it really that simple?

Hi,
So you should definitely 100% call Rogers right now and tell them your Blackberry battery is shot and you'd like another. The battery is under warranty for 1 year - you can check the warranty here http://www.blackberry.com/legal/warranty/battery.shtml

Would like to make an announcement:
Rogers has just released an update for the Blackberry Torch and other devices running Blackberry OS 6.
Since installing the update i haven't noticed much of a difference but my phone is still getting progressively better with age - or maybe i'm just learning how to use it.
I still wouldn't purchase another blackberry, especially considering BBM may soon be available on phones running android.
A final note for my fellow "Torchers" - if your phone is going slow and/or freezing trying pressing the button to the left of the track pad and closing as many open programs as possible, it helps.
