Rowland originally built 120 Java as a community center adjacent to the Ascension Church on Kent Street as a gift to the community.

The original masonry and heavy timber structure underwent a full adaptive re-use overseen by Rawlings Architects. Tara Benet Design lead the interior design, re-imagining the building for 21st Century living.

Loft-like and bright, units at 120 Java blend restored 19th century redbrick walls with modern features like new timber ceilings and beams, oversized double-pane Low-E windows, white oak engineered plank floors, LED lighting, and energy efficient split-system heating and cooling.
