If you are looking for a new book to read, or book recommendation for your book club, you’ve come to the right place! I’ve asked our team what everyone is reading. So without further ado, here is a list of recent reads from some of the incredible staff at BuzzBuzzHome.

Matthew Slutsky – Co-President, Co-Founder

Reading: Endurance: Shackleton’s Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing

Endurance is neither a business book or a real estate book, but a true story and account of persistence and determination. On the management side, this book demonstrates the importance and power of strong leadership and persistence. However, it also shows that at times you must make sacrifices, even if the team doesn’t agree with them.

Endurance is the story of man versus nature, and a harrowing tale of 27 men surviving in the Antarctic in 1914 over a 17-month period. The protagonist of the story is Sir Ernest Shackleton, and his leadership is awe-inspiring. Throughout the near year-and-half ordeal, Shackleton makes countless courageous decisions and many sacrifices, which I think is what saved all 27 souls.

Kiyoko Fujimura – Executive Vice President

Reading: Lords of Finance: The Bankers Who Broke The World by Liaquat Ahamed

Lords of Finance takes a more nuanced approach to contextualizing the modern financial crisis than other books that I found that focused on explaining just the mechanics of CDOs. Particularly meaningful for readers that enjoy macroeconomic policy, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand the motivations and actions of top central bankers, both historically and in today’s economy.

Reading: The Science of Selling: Proven Strategies to Make Your Pitch, Influence Decisions, and Close the Deal by David Hoffeld

Hannah Brennen – Director of Sales at Daypack

Reading: Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind and Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari

These are also not books on real estate, but you need to put down whatever you’re reading right now and finish it after you’ve read these. Instead of telling you why, I’ll show you what I wrote on my Facebook yesterday (I don’t post often!) and you can decide for yourself:

“Okay, okay, okay- started and finished Homo Deus this weekend after reading Sapiens earlier this year. I read a lot of books and these are some of the most exhilarating/ terrifying/ fascinating/ insightful/ eye opening/ brilliant/ thought-provoking books I’ve opened in a long, long time. Both books tell the story of humankind, exploring our species and how we arrived where we are today. They resolve difficult questions about the way the world works, and after doing so, dare to go ahead and ask new ones.”

These two books will change the way you understand everything and where you fit in it. Cannot recommend them enough. GO READ.
