EXTERIOR
Crafted in a striking mix of water-struck coal-fired bricks, gunmetal-gray stainless steel, and exposed board-formed concrete, these six townhouses and their signature verdant trellises make a noteworthy addition to the neighborhood. The green element reinforces the overall theme of the project: the signature trellis wraps the building from the roof terraces to transform into a green wall, then a planter, before resolving into a shaded overhang for the mews. Continuity and transition, elements that lead and guide from outside to within, is the design narrative one can see at every view.
INTERIOR
Each of the Wythe Lane Townhouses is a nearly 3,800 square foot, five-floor home with an additional finished below-grade media room, private off-street parking garage, private garden and roof deck. A private mews runs behind the townhouse gardens, providing a distinctive entryway for welcoming guests into each home’s exclusive address on Wythe Lane.
The interior design embraces clean lines and open spaces allowing the warm palette of materials and natural flow of light to come to the forefront. The exposed concrete ceilings display the grain of the rugged wooden planks used to form them, a reference to the industrial history of this part of Williamsburg. Every material used—including the wood, steel and concrete—flows continuously between the interior and exterior spaces; a recurrent theme throughout Wythe Lane.
DETAILS
Meticulous attention to detail and a cohesive vision are a hallmark of the designer/developer team, and this is tangible in the clear aesthetic and strong design principles of Wythe Lane. The townhouses combine the cleanliness and purity of minimalism without austerity, refined materials and a dramatic structure without ostentation, and are harmonious with their surroundings while being memorable and unique. It is a paradoxical achievement, seemingly effortlessly executed.
