Do you use a tablet (iPad or Playbook or other) for work or play? If work, how?

I have now had my iPad2 for about a month, and it has revolutionized the way I work. I am curious if the tablet is changing the way you work.

Biggest change:
- I no longer bring my laptop with me, ever. I used to lug my laptop home with me in the evenings, so I can do work. I now do it off my iPad.
- I used to get anxious when out of my office for more than 2-hours, as doing emails from the Blackberry was tough with that amount of information. Now, following a meeting I can catch up in my car, and continue to an other meeting.
- When at an industry event, I can now make a video (and edit it with iMovie) from the event, send it to my office, and have an eStory up while I am still at the event... it is almost like real-time video blogging.

The three things mentioned above have changed the way I work, and made life a heck of a lot easier.

Hello hello hello!
For work i use a LAPTOP exclusively. And, not just any laptop. I use a Lenovo W510 Thinkpad Workstation with an quad core i7 processor and lots of RAM.
I have an iPad but i use it only for reading in my bed at night-time. iPad's are cool but do not come even close to laptop/desktop functionality.

^^agreed... Tablets, as far as I am concerned, can not replace a traditional computer. That said, they are an amazing tool to augment your computer use. As mentioned above, the email capabilities (and website browsing) are the main functions of my iPad.
I am not as efficient with emails or my social media endeavors, as if I was on a computer but I am far more efficient with it than when I am just with my Blackberry. And, it saves me the hassle of lugging a laptop and setting up the laptop wherever I go.

Someone at my office pulled their Playbook out of their jacket pocket! That is cool! I bet you can't do that with your iPad!

Just got the 64 GB Playbook. Love it! So much easier than taking my laptop to appointments, and then waiting for it to boot up!
The display is crystal clear. Excellent for showing our marketing plan on the Powerpoint feature, our virtual tours etc. (bought the case that allows the playbook to stand upright for display).
Also excellent camera and video capabilities with easy upload to youtube. Impressive. Love that it syncs with my BB Bold. now I can bbm while checking email, while posting on twitter while checking fb statuses. Really a multi function marvel in my opinion!

@Cynthia thanks for your hands on take on the Playbook. I checked one out the other day and was really impressed but have been curious about how it performs in a "long term relationship".
I heard though that it doesn't have an app for email - is that correct? Also, does it only connect to the internet through your blackberry phone?

I travel to Toronto 1-2 a month and although I still bring my laptop, it usually gets left in the hotel for 'end of day' catch up. The ipad gets used on the plane, and in meetings while demonstrating our web-based homeowner manuals. The only time I will bring a laptop is if there are multiple people in the meeting, in which case a projector is needed.

I agree with Matthew, it is a great and handy tool but not yet capable of replacing the laptop.

^^Agreed. My laptop now stays in my office, unless I know that I will have to do some blogging in the evening, or if I know that there is a big story or news breaking in the real-estate world.
Due to leaving my laptop at the office, over the past three months I have only had to make three late night trips back to the office, because my iPad could not handle what I was doing.
Much like @Brent, I use it everywhere... from airplanes, to trains, to walking down the street... even last night, I was doing some work with a cigar and a scotch on my patio, where I would have rarely taken my laptop.

On a personal note, I love it for reading books. I use to dedicate time to reading in the evening and only at home; now I find myself reading a chapter here and there whenever I have a few moments or want to take some time for myself.

I find it really hard to read on a tablet, due to the back-lighting and the glare. However, since I bought the Kindle, I have at least doubled my pleasure reading.

I personally don't have a problem with the backlight so it works for me and yes, easily doubled my pleasure reading as well.

Hello,
I often use my iPad at work especially for meetings.
I used as note taking application EverNote and then Awesome Note for a long time and their ability to sync but both had a disadvantage ; the lack of features to accommodate tasks, to-do and make monitoring.
So I was seeking an alternative application to save time for my meeting. I have almost tested all the apps on Notes/ ToDo on the APPstore and I must admit I am still surprised they do not fit with a pro use. I have discovered Beesy, an note taking and management app ToDo which apparently include taking notes with a business way. I have tried for a month and until now i'm really satisfied by Beesy. It's really efficient and maybe the only disadavantage is you need time to use it efficiently. I guess this App really deserve we spend a little bit time to understand it
I love shortcuts of Beesy's icons in order to use it quicky and easily add notes. Also, the advantage is to submit easily by email minutes about my different meeting
If you are interested you can google "Beesy" of go to the application's website for information http://www.beesapps.com/beesy-ipad-to-do/
All the best,

My iPad has become my go to travel device.  Having a USB adaptor for my iPad, I'm able to plug my DSLR into it and import photos or videos directly from my camera.  I can edit, upload or email various projects from my tablet home and never have to worry about hauling around a larger laptop.

Not specifically work related, but it can be applied in many useful ways, especially if you interact with media files in the workplace.
