Fantasy Building: projects/designs you'd love to see in your city

I've always been fond of the renderings for the Edgar Street Towers, which are not happening, but the design is still unbearably cool. The backstory: San Francisco-based IwamotoScott did a study for a tower in Lower Manhattan. The proposal was commissioned by New York’s Downtown Alliance as part of a study into how to transform the area south of the World Trade Center site. You can read more here: http://www.dezeen.com/2010/05/09/edgar-street-towers-by-iwamotoscott/

the atrium makes me queasy in the very best way, like I'm looking at sinew encased in steel and blown up to tower proportions.

@Kelsey Blair Kobra Towers is wonderfully ridiculous; brings to mind visions of villainous oversized asparagus, or ice-skating earthworm twins. I'll take one for NYC!

The @Absolute World in Mississauga by @Cityzen Development Group is just amazing. I would love to see a design of this class in downtown Toronto:

The Opus in Dubai was put on hold a year ago and I doubt it will be built, but it's a pretty cool (and ridiculous) building!

Any of the above buildings would look smashing on our Niagara Falls skyline! We love extremes here- even the queasy feeling buildings! (We even have an upside down house- built to OBC perfection!) We'd love to see these 60 storey towers on our skyline,- within our lifetime?! Rendering of new project already approved by N. Falls City Council! Project belongs to Hinter Milborne/Ralph Terrio. Very exciting! Very impressive! Let's 'just do it'!

Imagine doing workable interior layouts for Kobra Towers! Great great admiration for the architects of that building!
We'd be happy to have one in N.Falls- we like extremes!

Can you imagine rolling up to work every day here? Despite its cartoonish looks, Krzywy Domek is home to many Polish and global businesses in the finance, health and media industries. This is an actual building designed in 2004 by someone who had a little too much fun at architecture firm Szotynscy & Zaleski. Krzywy Domek ("Crooked House") is a shopping center in Sopot, Poland, and those crazy curves are for real.Inspired by the fairy tale illustrations of Jan Marcin Szancer and Per Dahlberg, Krzywy Domek looks like it leaped off the pages of a storybook!

We are extreme in Niagara Falls! We need an office building like the above on Queen Street in Niagara Falls! City is revitalizing the downtown here- this would bring lots of attention to the street! Above and Beyond Niagara (us!) would be the first business in it! Imagine having your offices in a building like that! Ha!Ha! Would all the drafting be crooked?!

@Absolute World is a great looking building from the outside but many of the interior layouts are not that great.

@Absolute World looks like 2 salad dressing bottles, upside down! I imagine it would be hard to layout the interior But how about Kobra Towers! That would be way worse! Where do you put the elevator core in that one?

Nicholas: I will try to get the interior layout for the crooked building in Poland! I would love to see that built on Queen St in Niagara Falls! Our business would be the 1st. tenants! We like extremes in N.Falls!

I love an interesting building and everytime I see the absolute buildings I'm in awe but I don't think I would be a good realtor if I didn't take into consideration the day-to-day lives of the people who live their and not just their beauty.

I've heard a number of complaints about the layouts and bedrooms that can't even fit a double bed, let alone dresser, etc. Show me a build that is beautiful on both the outside and inside and then I'll be really impressed :-)

@Jennifer Yeoman I think the elevator from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory might work for Kobra Towers!

@Nicholas Gavey Agreed on this! Homes should be made for the people who live in them as well as the people who live around them.

Isn't this absolutely beautiful?! Seeing as Niagara Falls is such a watery place (!), I think this would be an very elegant addition to the city's landscape!
Design is by Steven Holl.He has just received the AIA's  'Gold Medal'! I can see why!
"Horizontal Skyscraper - Vanke Center, the decision to float one large structure right under the 35-meter height limit, instead of several smaller structures each catering to a specific program, generates the largest possible green space open to the public on the ground level,Shenzhen, China".

Insanity: Looks like Dubai is installing a replica of the Taj Mahal! The copy will be several times bigger than the original.

Pictures of the model from Times LIVE:

More details from dnaindia.com (http://www.dnaindia.com/world/report_dubai-realty-project-to-install-huge-taj-mahal-replica_1748322):

The replica by Link Global Group will be "a part the Falconcity of Wonders (FCW) - a multi-purpose project being developed in Dubai. Taj Arabia will be surrounded by lush green innovated landscaping including the famous Mughal Gardens and architecturally themed landmark buildings, the company said during Cityscape Global 2012 event here.

"The project comprises various residential and commercial buildings including a mega retail hub including jewellery souk and wedding boutiques. Link Global Group will develop this new landmark at Falconcity of Wonders that is described as 'The World in a City' project. It will include several historical and modern icons of architecture from around the world such as Pyramids, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, Great Wall of China, and Leaning Tower of Pisa."

The whole concept of Falconcity of Wonders is quite amazing! I could hang out in the gardens of Babylon & lean on the Tower of Pisa, all in the same day!
