Best cell phone plan for travelling between U.S. and Canada?

I'm spending half my time in Toronto and half in New York. I've currently got a Verizon phone for the US and a Rogers phone for Canada. This comes to up to $300+ month and its a hassle dealing with two phones, two numbers, two chargers, etc.

Any ideas?

I know this is an old question, but just in case :)

My friends in the US use T-Mobile .. While roaming, they give almost unlimited data and if you're on WiFi you get unlimited talk. I guess, it can do the job even here in Canada.

If you don't mind having just one USA number, that's the best option. Roaming charges etc. billed by the US carriers for Canadian usage is very low, compared to the reversal scenario. The only downside is that when your Toronto people call you, they may be on the hook for long distance charges to a USA number.

I used to work for one of the largest cell companies (one of the top 4) back in the days before I got in to real estate marketing! ;)
